BHS riding and road safety test

Blackdown Riding Club is planning to run a BHS Riding and Road Safety test in spring 2008. There will be space for a maximum of 15 on the course, and there are already a few who have registered their interest, so if you would like to join in, please get in touch as soon as possible. There will be 3 training sessions, conducted by Julia Garrett, followed by a test day. The test itself comprises a written paper on the highway code, a ridden test in a safe off road area, and then, assuming the first two elements were completed successfully, a test on the road.

The Riding and Road Safety test is taken by more than 4,000 candidates every year. It helps to educate riders in road safety and to minimise the risks involved when riding on the road. This course leads to a BHS qualification in its own right, and is a requirement if you wish to complete your BHS stage exams.

Medical Armbands

The Committee would be grateful if all Members could take a few minutes to think about what would happen if they were injured at one of the Clubs events. Horse riding is a dangerous sport and accidents do happen. The Committee strongly advise that you wear a medical arm band at all Club events, with your name, age, address, emergency contact number and any relevant medical details.  Arm bands are available at all the local tack shops.

AGM Minutes

The minutes of the Annual General Meeting of Blackdown Mendip Riding Club held on 25 October 2007 are available for scrutiny on this website (Download the minutes here). As the minutes are available on the website, they will not be circulated separately to the membership prior to the AGM in 2008. In the event that any member requires a paper copy of the minutes, please contact our Secretary.

Dress and Tack Guidelines

In order that the standards of competitors’ dress at events can be maintained at the highest possible level, guidelines are set. Certain items are included in the rules and are therefore mandatory. Riding Club Dress Rules.
